With the amount of video content at an all-time high, it’s no longer feasible to manage it all manually. News organizations and media companies simply cannot afford bottlenecks that slow down the production time.
With intense competition for audience attention, operating margins are under constant pressure, making every efficiency gain a potential game changer. This dynamic environment has led to many media organizations to accelerate the pace of their digital transformation, often exploring the benefits of Story-Centric workflows and other newsroom tech innovations.
LiveU Story-Centric workflows, by offering a high degree of integration between production components (including those from other leading tech providers), helps ensure that story-related metadata is accurately preserved and enhanced right the way through the production value chain, lay a solid foundation for the deployment of production automation. By adopting these automation tools, organizations can reduce human error and make content available faster for linear and digital production teams.
This is where LiveU Ingest shines. LiveU’s automatic recording and story metadata tagging solution adds recording capacity and delivers seamless workflows – with instant sharing of live video between stations.
Fox Television Stations joined other broadcast leaders from NBC, Hearst, Gray, and Sinclair on a Remote Production webinar presented by TVNewsCheck on July 16, 2024, and shared thoughts on how LiveU Ingest will impact productions. [Read the webinar recap here].
Tim Joyce, SVP of Engineering Operations and Technology noted that Fox stations are planning to soon take “the next step” and deploy LiveU Ingest.
For live shots in the field, Fox uses LiveU bonded cellular encoders. Adding Ingest will help make the crews work smarter in the field, gathering more content for breaking news and their content repository for future use.
“A lot of times when the local teams are going out, they’re just thinking about their local newscast,” Joyce said. “But there are stories that have legs across the nation, and you never know when someone’s going to want to dip in. So, this gives us the ability for our other stations to look at what’s going around in the group, and what story they think is going to take off and be pertinent for others to use it. One of the nice abilities of that is it lines up with your NRCS system, so everybody can see it.”
“Using LiveU Ingest will allow Fox photographers to be constantly recording and capturing fresh video, without having to remember to turn the system on and off,” Joyce said. “Having easy access to all that video in the cloud will also facilitate more sharing of content between stations.”
But don’t just take Fox’s word for it. Try it yourself. Here’s what you can quickly realize by adding LiveU Ingest to your production workflow:
