The Challenge

Volleyball is the fourth most watched sport globally and continues to grow rapidly with more content, more viewers, and more destinations/platforms. With multiple beach volleyball tournaments taking place throughout 2022, Volleyball World (Federation) was looking for a reliable cost-effective and flexible distribution solution that will allow them to expand their reach while replacing traditional costly transmission methods.

The Solution

LiveU’s end-to-end contribution and distribution solution was deployed, supplying the feeds from the event locations to the various takers (sports broadcasters and OTT channels) around the world.

IP distribution was carried out via the LiveU Matrix cloud video service, using LRT™ (LiveU Reliable Transport) as well as SRT on the output side. Seamless integration with a remote commentary solution (Spalk) was also part of the smooth IP workflow, allowing Volleyball World to enrich viewers’ experience while maintaining high-quality and very low delay from the camera to the final takers.

The Result

Provided as a fully managed solution, LiveU Matrix allowed Volleyball World to focus on content creation, while having peace-of-mind knowing distribution is handled by LiveU. With the added IP workflow flexibility and the ability to share feeds on different formats and with different takers, the live broadcast from the various championship games reached a record-breaking 16 million fans around the world. This was reached through its online media channels and 28 stakeholders taking the feeds, including SRF, Rai, CBC, ESPN and ARD/NDR.
