The City of Aurora, located in Illinois, recently embarked on a comprehensive upgrade of their audio/video (AV) systems, encompassing the council chambers, conference rooms, control room, and studio space. LiveU reseller partner, Key Code Media provided the equipment design and integration services, transforming the city’s approach to public meetings and community broadcasting.

The Challenge

In 2020, the city began hosting meetings over Zoom, which significantly increased community engagement. This experience was a eureka moment for the city communication team to begin investing in more professional live production and broadcast equipment to maintain and enhance this level of engagement. The City wanted to leverage programming on ACTV and social media platforms like YouTube and Facebook.

The council chambers is nearly 100 years old, and was not originally set up for video production. To compound that, the production studio was offsite in a neighboring parking garage.

The Solution

The TV studio and control room were moved to the fifth floor of the main city building. The control room, now the hub for AV signals, includes LiveU for remote production, covering events like local high school games, city addresses, parades, and activities. The multicamera workflow allows a camera person and LiveU encoder to send live feeds to the central hub for production. Integrated with the LiveU EcoSystem is a VizRT TriCaster 2 Elite to handle live productions, switching, and audio. Castus was added for playout, enabling broadcasts on ACTV and streaming on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch. The studio features a green screen, projector, microphones, and cameras for recordings.

The City of Aurora’s upgraded AV systems now better engage the community, streamline operations, and provide professional-quality broadcasts.
