THE CHALLENGE

The Basketball Tournament is a 64-team event broadcasted live on ESPN, which takes place across three weeks in various locations around the United States. This year, Tupelo Honey chose to produce the event remotely using LiveU from their production facility in Indianapolis to reduce travel, cut costs and spend time to really amp up the production.

THE SOLUTION

Using the Remote Production model, Tupelo Honey deployed 2 LU800 multi-camera transmission units on-site. They were able to connect CCU-based cameras to send the 8 simultaneous live video feeds back to their control facility with under a second of latency.

With multiple games happening simultaneously, the production crew was also able to take live feeds from other games and incorporate look-ins and deliver a more holistic look at what was happening within the tournament.

“REMI production isn’t new and certainly the pandemic has accelerated a lot of things that were already in place. LiveU offers a redundancy that frankly satellite and even fiber don’t. If the network on site goes down, we have cellular as a backup and knowing that the future is not in the ground, the future is in the air. The growth is going to be in bandwidth.”
