Background

In February 2022, French service provider Free launched a dedicated platform for Ligue 1 top-tier football, complementing its Free Ligue 1 Uber Eats app. The app aims to engage fans by providing free access to goal highlights and other live content.

Users can unlock exclusive content, such as interviews and behind-the-scenes footage, as well as personalized notifications for their favorite teams. The app aims to connect fans with the excitement of Ligue 1.

The Challenge

Free Ligue 1 faced the challenge of producing more dynamic content that catered to social media while optimizing resource allocation. The existing production methods were not efficient enough to meet these demands, risking user engagement and subscription growth. They needed a solution that would allow real-time content delivery and interactive fan experiences without the high costs associated with traditional broadcasting.

The Solution

To enhance their dynamic operation, they were in search of a solution that could integrally plug into their creative workflow and increase monetization. Utilizing LiveU’s IP-video EcoSystem, including the compact LU300S units and LiveU Studio cloud production service, Free Ligue 1 implemented a cost-effective remote production workflow. It enables them to produce a rich range of content more efficiently, such as match highlights and exclusive interviews. The entire production is expertly handled by 714 Production, operating from a control room in Paris, managing multiple stadium feeds and delivering edited content instantly and clips to both the app and social media platforms. This innovative approach has increased viewer engagement, incentivizing viewers to subscribe to the app’s Premium Account.

With LiveU’s cutting-edge technology at its core, the Free Ligue 1 app has quickly become a sensation, attracting over three million enthusiastic users across the country.

It’s become not just an app; it’s a digital stadium where fans unite to celebrate their love for the game.
